ASEEES Issues Statement Condemning Court Case against DOXA Editors
Published March 29, 2022
The Executive Committee of the Association for Slavic, East European, and Eurasian Studies strongly condemns the court case being brought against the former editors of the student journal DOXA that has been developing since April 14, 2021. We believe that these student editors, like those everywhere, should be allowed to express their opinions freely. To charge Natalia Tyshkevich, Vladimir Metyolkin, Armen Aramyan, and Alla Gutnikova with “involving minors in committing actions that pose a threat to their life” for posting a 3-minute video of support for other students contravenes the norms of fair justice and constitutes a serious breach of the concept and practice of university autonomy and freedom of speech. We strongly condemn the bringing of this case and call for their immediate release.
